Spanning the colonial years of his youth and exciting times in Singapore and India working on Lutyens’ New Deli. His return to England, including his work on the iconic Sea Bathing Lake in Southport. Moving forward to his later career in social housing which reshaped England after the second world war. The main subject is the wonderful Garde 2 listed Arts and Crafts, building he designed and left for us all to appreciate, The Close at Nailsea. An interesting read for lovers of Architecture, Arts and Crafts and social history with photographs and original drawings of his travels and time in the Far East in the 1920’s. Beautiful produced and illustrated throughout.

When I lived in Nailsea in the 1970s I was quite unaware of one of its hidden treasures.
The account of Love's training as an architect illustrates what a lengthy process this could be in the early years of the 20th century. This section of the book discusses how Love would have been influenced by the Arts and Crafts tradition, the Garden Cities movement and Nottinghamshire's own 'Homes for Heroes' programme.
The sections of the book dealing with the work in Penang, Singapore and New Delhi are especially interesting. I also like the chapters featuring his architectural sketches. The drawings remind me a little of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Northern Italian Sketchbook.
