Robert Maclaren Love: An Architectural History

Robert Maclaren Love (1887-1979), an English architect, has remained relatively unknown until now. From his early days as an architect in England, through his work in the Far East and New Delhi, to his final return to England, the book explores his architectural influences, known designs and works, in particular The Close at Nailsea. This is a group of exceptional houses inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement, in particular the vernacular work of Sir Edwin Lutyens. Local history is interwoven with the development of the houses, with the 1930’s exterior and interior design and decoration described and illustrated in detail, including many photographs and original drawings by the architect. This book will be of considerable interest to lovers of architecture, Arts and Crafts enthusiasts and local historians.
